Books that have been written with AT principles in mind for children.
Janette Costin, an Australian AT teacher has written at least 3 AT illustrated story books aimed at very young children:
Thinking Where I Am
Thinking About A Smile
Thinking About Space
I’ve also come across a book called ‘Zak’ by Bridget Belgrave. I’m not sure if she’s actually an AT Teacher (she did a session on Compassionate Communication at the Oxford Congress) but the ideas in the story are very ‘Alexandery’! Suitable for approx. 9-11 year olds.
The Labyrinth of Gar by Sue Merry can be bought on her website: http://www.ed2k.org.uk/
It is an adventure story and introduction to the Alexander Technique for children aged between 7 to 12. It is illustrated by Amy Merry with additional illustrations by the children of Educare Small School. It can be used as a very useful teaching aid or given to a child as a self-read book. It is currently out of print and only available as a file download.
