In these sessions you will form a community of enquiry. This involves a group of people being:
Collaborative Caring
Creative, and
Critical
In a Community of Enquiry, people build on each other's ideas through dialogue.
As a group you will be offered a stimulus which will encourage you to do the following:
Ask Questions Part of the time will involve thinking about the types of questions you have asked. Are they factual questions? Do they involve expressions of value or preference, or are they conceptual questions.
Make suggestions and form hypotheses To have a few good ideas you have to have lots of ideas. A large part of being creative is about being able to make connections and to spot patterns.
Engage in conceptual exploration Concepts are the building blocks of language and of understanding, Forming and clarifying concepts is a key to the development of good thinking.
Reason with each other Developing and refining arguments through dialogue is the basis for clear thinking and for a culture of 'reasonableness' where people listen to each other.
Evaluate claims and suggestions Individuals and groups need to make judgements and decisions based on strong evidence. They need to be aware of the assumptions that underpin arguments and whether claims really are supported by proposed arguments.
